Ever get annoyed about the horror movie listings on cable? Doesn't it seem like Army of Darkness, Halloween, The Exorcist and An American Werewolf in London are on a rotating schedule amongst cable channels that air horror films relatively regularly? If a good horror channel isn't available in your area or you simply do not want to pay extra for such a channel, what alternative do you have? DOOMSDAY TV&trade! At DoomsdayTV&trade, we simply make listings for all of our fans/readers to buy/rent/borrow from a library, reference from and watch at the same time as if they were watching the same television channel! We've painstakingly gone over and over a vast list of movies and hand-picked films that seem to go perfectly with a particular time of year, a particular week and even a time of day! We've drawn upon many old and lost television traditions and re-instated them, and reminisced heavily upon the old days of shock theater-style television for inspiration.

The origins of this idea came from this webmaster and friends who casually conversed over what their programming would be if they had their own television channel. A no-brainer, really. Horror movies! There have also been several online communities who have chatted, agreed on a film and watched it at the same time - as if it were on television. This site goes one step further, creating an entire 24-hour listing for 365 days out of the year! However.....

What we are NOT is an actual television channel. We do not transmit or broadcast movies or videos through cyberspace, via cable or satellite. We are a reference. We list a movie to be watched at a particular time. That is where you, the viewers, come in.

It is very easy to participate in this community viewing experience. You, the viewer, refer to the film schedule in the "schedule" section of this website. At the scheduled time, you view the movie in any way that you can, in any video format available to you, regardless of what version of the movie you have. Whether you have available to you the VHS, DVD, LaserDisc, Betamax, CED, etc. of a particular movie, it does not matter. The films selected for viewing are reasonably easy to find, and all participants are encouraged to either rent, buy or borrow from their local library any scheduled movie that they plan to view.

The schedule is broken down into two-hour blocks to allow for a given film's varying running time (with movies running over two hours long being scheduled accordingly). The schedule is also broken down into 24-hour periods beginning at 6:00 AM. The schedule begins at 6:00 AM to allow for uninterrupted listings for potential all-night marathons and to treat any film scheduled for a "midnight showing" as it would be presented - in the "middle of the night." In many cases, films repeat later on in the day to accommodate viewers' own schedules so that they can participate at some point.

Viewers are encouraged to stick with their own time zone when watching scheduled movies. This is for convenience to the viewers and to reinforce that old "local television" feel and experience.

Here at DoomsdayTV&trade, we are providing a service to the horror/science fiction/cult movie enthusiast community. We hope to help provide an experience for our "viewers" that is special, and also hope to broaden the tastes of horror fans by listing films that one wouldn't ordinarily see on television (thus going beyond the "Elm Street," "Chainsaw Massacre," and modern remake variety of films). We hope that you, the viewer, are inspired to participate and enjoy the films listed (good and bad alike!).

Now, to explain some of the film series, themes and marathons......

There will be a "Classic Selection" scheduled at varying times throughout a given weekly schedule to accommodate the busy schedules of viewers - basically like a "movie of the week." The selection will stand for seven to ten days, depending on how many days there are in a given month. In an effort to encourage as many participants to view the selection, the movie selected will be a relatively easy film to find. On the 13th of every month, we are scheduling what is going to be referred to as "The Unlucky 13 Marathon." Each month will present a different theme. The movies will begin at noon.....

Every Friday at midnight (beginning in January), there will be a weekly film series running for approximately eight to twelve weeks at a time. This will include the "Italian Horror," "New York City Horrors" and "Summer Heat" film series. More film series will be selected and scheduled at a later date.

There will be several special marathons, some conducive to holidays, others created for the variety of fans out there who plainly like marathons.

In addition to the marathons on Halloween day and around Christmas/New Year's Day, there will be the "KaijuKong Thanksgiving Weekend Marathon." This marathon combines the decades-old New York area tradition of the RKO giant gorilla/Kong films aired on Thanksgiving, the Kaiju Eiga (the giant monster movies from out of Japan, with Godzilla being its biggest star) airings the day after Thanksgiving and the fan-applauded Mystery Science Theatre 3000 marathon that aired Thanksgiving weekend year after year across the country. However, this marathon lasts all of Thanksgiving weekend, saving the "leftovers" (a condensed version of the multi-day fest) for Sunday. The four-day weekend fest will include a "Stuffing the Kaijuthon" and "Stuffing the Bird" marathon the day before Thanksgiving featuring some of Godzilla's close friends and a few birds who one should hope wouldn't drop in on Thanksgiving. The "Ultra Kaiju Thanksgiving Weekend Marathon" is listed for the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This marathon consists of Gamera's greatest battles. The entire five-day marathon will repeat in March in abridged form.

For those who get depressed when Halloween is over, there will be a special marathon for Halloween lovers in February. Check the schedule for movies and times. Other marathons scheduled throughout the year include the Night of the Gore Films, Horror at the Movies, The Valentine's Day Horrorfest and others that remain to be scheduled.
